Join us on Zoom in January as we venture into Canada for the first time in our Jews around the World series! Katherine Biggs-Craft, Executive Director and Curator of the Saint John Jewish Historical Museum,

will present, “A Glimpse into Jewish History in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, 1858 to 2020”.

This talk will explore how the Saint John Jewish community came to be – from the arrival of cigar makers from England in 1858 through the immigration from Eastern Europe from the 1890s to the 1920s and the arrival of Holocaust survivors in the late 1940s – and how it thrived from the 1920s to the 1960s by looking at the role of the synagogue, participation in organizational activities, growth of businesses, military service and family and community life.

Katherine Biggs-Craft holds  Bachelors and  Masters of Arts degrees in history from the University of New Brunswick. She joined the Saint John Jewish Historical Museum when it opened in 1986 and became its curator in 1998. More information about the museum can be found here.
