Sometimes, the universe weaves together moments that seem unrelated, bringing together people, causes, and purpose in the most unexpected ways. How could a non-profit dedicated to helping families of children battling pediatric cancer, the Houston Marathon, and a memorial garden blooming with life and love ever intersect? And yet, they have forming a connection that embodies resilience, generosity, and community

At the heart of this story is Ethan's Ohana, a non-profit created by Brian and Angie Perry in honor of their son, Ethan, who passed away from cancer in March of 2021. Their mission is to support families navigating the unimaginable challenges of pediatric cancer, just as they once did. One of the ways they raise funds is through volunteer efforts at community events, where organizations donate in recognition of their service.

This year, that spirit of service led Angie and a team of employees from ChampionX in Sugar Land to volunteer at the 2025 Houston Marathon. Among the thousands of runners was Saurabh Nitin, a Senior Vice President at ChampionX, who was surprised to see such a large turnout of employees from his company there. When he later learned about Ethan's Ohana and its mission-including the Memorial Garden for Ethan at Congregation Beth El-he felt compelled to do more.

That spark of inspiration has now grown into something even greater. On Friday, February 28th, ChampionX employees will join forces with the Seeds of Serenity committee to breathe new life into Ethan's Memorial Garden, a sanctuary of native plants, pollinators, and peace. This garden, nestled within Congregation Beth El, is more than just a collection of flowers-it is a living tribute, a space for reflection, healing, and hope.

ChampionX will provide native Texas plants and materials, while volunteers will come together to clear winter's remnants, plant vibrant new blossoms, install plant identification signs, and enhance the space with pollinator watering stations and garden decor.

What began as a marathon has become a movement-one that stretches beyond miles and medals, reaching into the heart of a community bound by compassion. In this shared effort, we honor Ethan's memory, nurture nature's beauty, and reaffirm the simple yet powerful truth that kindness has the power to bring people together in extraordinary ways.
