Four Chaplains Memorial

Sunday, February 3, 2019 28 Shevat 5779

2:00 PM - 3:00 PMAmerican Legion Post 241 - 1021 S Velasco St, Angleton, TX

Rabbi Lobel will participate in a service honoring the “Four Chaplains” of the troop ship SS Dorchester, which sank 76 years ago during World War II.

The chaplains – Reverend George Lansing Fox, Rabbi Alexander David Goode, Reverend Clark Vandersall Poling, and Father John Patrick Washington – gave up their life jackets to other soldiers when the supply ran out and helped them board the life boats. According to firsthand accounts, the chaplains joined together, arm in arm, and recited prayers and sang hymns as they went down with the ship.

On the anniversary of their act of bravery and sacrifice, Rabbi Lobel, joining other faith leaders, will honor these heroes.

All are welcome to attend. Please RSVP below or send an email to Norma Gonzales at admin@betheltx.org.
